Thank you for once again sharing your wisdom and perspective with all of us. I came across your photo on your website. You don’t look like I had pictured you in my head. (I was seeing your heart instead of your face!). Which triggered a flash:
Martin Luther King Jr in his speech, I Have a Dream, that he dreamed of the day when his children would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
In reflecting on this the other day, my “translation” of what he said was more than just the words.
1. We are not to judge others by their outer appearance, by who they appear to be as the “outer man,” which is more than skin color, it being symbolic of the outer man. For me, the outer man includes their words, nationality, ethnicity, religion, education, language, culture, gender, sexual orientation, etc., etc.
2. He wanted his children to be “judged” by “the content of their character.” I don’t like the word “judge” as it doesn’t apply here, but what he was saying to me is that we are to SEE others as the “inner man,” the spiritual being they truly are, the qualities of character that make for trust and respect, their inner Light, their compassion, integrity, ethical standard of conduct, etc., etc.
I feel this is particularly important politically right now. There is so much hype, speech, mudslinging, charisma, illusion, spinning, etc.
On the economic crisis we are in: IT IS A HUGE WAKE-UP CALL.
For me, it is confirmation that CEOs, corporations, banking and financial institutions, all those who seek after money and power have SACRIFICED THE INTRINSIC VALUE OF EACH HUMAN BEING, or more truly, the INTRINSIC VALUE OF EACH SOUL IN HUMAN FORM TO THE TWO-HEADED GOD OF MONEY AND POWER.
Along with that, they have SACRIFICED ALL SPIRITUAL VALUES SUCH AS INTEGRITY, HONESTY, ETHICAL CONDUCT, COMPASSION, FORGIVENESS, etc.etc. TO THIS TWO-HEADED GOD. A lot of people hide behind the facade of “What I did wasn’t ILLEGAL!” without giving any recognition of the ethical principle behind the legality.
AS A RESULT OF THIS, WE HAVE BECOME COMMODITIES FROM WHICH TO EXTRACT MONEY any which way one can.
This has resulted in accruing money and power at all costs as the ONLY value to which all other values have been subordinated and sacrificed.
For us as individuals, we must never allow others to lose sight of our intrinsic value as the god within clothed in human flesh, assist all others to recognize themselves as such and to not allow ourselves to become commodities from which to extract money.
Thanks for listening.
Love,
Kathy Phillips
