Where Love is Not

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. Every illusion is one of fear, whatever form it takes. And the attempt to escape from one illusion into another must fail. If you seek love outside yourself you can be certain that you perceive hatred within, and you are afraid of it. Yet peace will never come from the illusion of love, but only from its reality.” ACIM text.pg.338

The past months have been of introspection. I was having a conversation with a person yesterday and he stated that he believed it was time to awaken to the words of God before we were cut-off and lost eternally. He felt it was time for people to take the stand and witness to the “truth”. I said to him that I thought there had and are many witnesses to this perceived “truth” but I asked him if he knew of or could show me anyone that was a model of his beliefs? I then told him, that witnesses were a dime a dozen, and I felt that it was time for those who truly believed, to step up to the plate and become models that the rest of humanity could emulate. The person that I spoke with is a bible scholar and as he attempted to “witness” to me about Gods’ retribution of those who did not believe as he did, I asked if he had spent anytime in the book of Genesis? He responded that he had and so I asked him if he was familiar with Genesis 2:21 and he assured me that he was.
So I shared with him my belief…If Adam fell into a deep sleep then the Bible as we experience its’ writings now is the result of a dream that Adam had. Dreams are an illusion that appears real to the dreamer at the time of the dream but once awakened, the dreamer can clearly see the dream as what it is…only a dream.

In my earlier years, being brought up in a religious environment I had come across this scripture. The Church I attended encouraged Bible reading and exploration of what it felt to be the truth. But what really inspired me to pursue my Biblical exploration was this verse from the book of Genesis. During the years of 1959-1963 I read the Bible in its complete form (King James Version) six times looking for any mention of Adams awakening…It is not there…according to the Bible, Adam never has awakened. So by the time that I was thirteen years of age, I realized that the Bible was just a chronicle of Adams’ dream!

The Separation is about our falling asleep to our Source and his Kingdom. It is about falling asleep to love and having a dream that was without the love that we each remembered but many have forgotten now. I agree that this is the time that we are called to waken, not to awaken in judgment, terror, and damnation but to awaken to Love. As you reflect on the world that you think is real…is this a place of love…or fear? Do you actually believe that this world can be both? Then you see a world of illusion; which always will obscure the truth from your eyes. You will not see the love that is present here now but you will see the hate, the fear, death, loss and destruction etc. You will know the fear, despair, sadness, hopelessness etc that you think exists because it has become a part of your mind. It has become part of you thinking! What you believe in you must see and in seeing it…you have made the thought reality for yourself.

What is feared appears only real because you have forgotten Love. A love that is all encompassing, unconditional, eternal and that does not share its’ space with anything else. If love is here then fear cannot be! If this world is a shared dream then all of what we believe the truth is needs to be examined and if it is found lacking then it needs to be discarded. If we are Gods’ creation, created in his likeness and image then, what we have believed to be true about ourselves needs to be discarded. The awakening is no more than a realization that what we have believed to be true is false! In the truth we find our freedom from any and all limitation, what we have made to be evil is divine, what we have made to be weak, diseased, helpless is empowered by and through love.

We were created divine, and with love were given everything, which we denied. We made an “ego” instead, a personality that defined us as something we were not and we believed it. Through our loyalty to what we made we have given it all power that we possess in order to be its worshipers and to follow its laws. Laws that we have willingly professed and agreed upon; of greed, war, jealousy, judgments, hate and illness. Of course throughout time we have renamed the Law: capitalism, democracy, Islam, Positive criticism, collateral damage, etc. We’ve tried repeatedly to make love something that must be sought and never found; embraced and then lost; cherished and then betrayed. We made stories about our experiences and then we sought witnesses who would sing the story of our woes and then perhaps of our victories over the woes. We made sure that the story was so convincing that we could be convinced. Our thoughts, which are powerful, have become the powerful mediators and interpreters of our perceived reality! This will never change until our thoughts change!

Many will and have said that changing your mind is not enough…it is not that simple! To those I say…try changing your mind instead of insisting what you have never willfully done can’t be achieved. I say “willfully” use the power, concentration, focus that is yours and you will find that nothing is impossible to you. Many will and have said that Love is not enough to accomplish what needs to be done. To those I say that you haven’t experience the power of Love in truth! The love that you think you know is not the Love that is All Knowing, All Powerful and All Completing.

It is time to awaken…first to explore and discover what love is not…then to open your minds to the Love that is Our Source; the Love that is part of every person; and the Love that is part of you. How many will see these words and not remember them? How many will hear these words in their minds but not listen to them? How long will you seek for something that you are not willing to receive? Love is not outside of you…but present within your mind.
