If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you… it will be enough!
The Moment After…
We say that we live a spiritual life. We say that we believe in peace, harmony, right actions and abundance for all of humanity. When we finish our meditations, chanting, prayers, affirmations etc., what is the moment after like? Are we still centered in peace? Are our thoughts still focused on love and harmony? Are we still focused on the abundance of good things everywhere for all of mankind? Or have we somehow left our “spirituality” behind? Has our commitment to good intentions become more about getting what we want rather than what is beneficial for all humanity? Has our light of spirituality somehow dimmed and become a cry for the constancy of materiality of and in this world? Are you at peace? Is peace a constant in your life? …or is the constancy of peace even expected? Is spirituality an on and off switch that you play with as the mood hits you?
Is it easier to be spiritual when your bills are paid, when you’re experiencing the abundance of life? Are you praying for abundance, love, health or career-opportunites, while believing that what you are praying for is not here now?
Is your spirituality highlighted by all the things that you “do”? Punctuated by your good deeds and service? Are you fulfilled? Are you evidencing love? Are you at peace? Or are you frustrated that God just doesn’t get the expediency of your needs? So in that moment after the prayer, meditation, chant, affirmation etc. will you still be spiritual? If not then what will you become? If abundance, health, happiness, peace isn’t manifested, what will you do? If all that you thought being spiritual meant doesn’t happen what will you choose instead?
Don’t you ever wonder why you continue to follow the traditions, the holidays, the solstice, the new moon etc. without some perceivable or lasting result? If what we say we are, but are unable to evidence that now, then why do we continue to do it? Are we hoping that at sometime/somewhere we will become it? That somehow, we will stumble upon the hidden secrets that will unlock the mysteries of the universe before us and we will then receive all of those things that we have so desperately been seeking? Does that make us spiritual or opportunistic? Are we seeking for an experience of God or are we seeking for opportunities through God? Are we seeking for the kingdom of God or are we seeking to get “all those added things”? And once those things are accomplished do we then know God? Have we entered into the kingdom? Was it ever our intention to enter the kingdom? Or are we expecting a rest stop right before our entrance into the kingdom? You know…a place where we can reflect and think about what the kingdom might look like? What God might be like?
Perhaps it is as simple as changing your mind about your meaning of spirituality!
